Food pantry resources in Haywood County, North Carolina

Residents of Haywood County facing food insecurity have access to a variety of resources, including food pantries, free grocery stores, and food distribution programs.

 

Long's Chapel in Waynesville operates the Second Season Neighborhood Pantry, a free grocery store that distributes over 200,000 pounds of food annually. The pantry is open every Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday from 9 a.m. to noon at 156 Boundary Street. Recently, the pantry received a $3,500 grant to support its efforts.

 

Haywood Christian Ministry in Waynesville provides a large-scale food pantry, distributing approximately 1.2 million pounds of food in 2023, equivalent to 1 million meals. The pantry operates Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at 150 Branner Avenue.

 

The Community Kitchen in Canton offers hot meals and food boxes. Meals are served Monday through Friday from 4:30 p.m. to 6 p.m., and food boxes are available during operating hours. The kitchen is located at 922 Champion Drive.

 

Grace Episcopal Church in Waynesville operates a food pantry open Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. at 394 North Haywood Street.

 

First United Methodist Church's Friendship House in Waynesville is open Monday through Saturday at 566 South Haywood Street.

 

Beulah Baptist Church in Canton provides food assistance on Tuesdays from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at 483 Sunset Circle.

 

For students, Haywood Community College offers Clyde's Cupboard, a food pantry available to all currently enrolled students. Located in the Hemlock Building, students can access the pantry up to two times per month.

 

Additionally, the Haywood County Health & Human Services Agency provides a monthly updated Food Resource Guide, listing local food pantries and community meal programs. Residents can also dial 2-1-1 to connect with health and human services in the community.

 

These resources are vital in supporting the community and ensuring that residents have access to necessary food assistance.
