Maggie Valley Club Makes Big Impact

Holiday Fundraiser Makes Big Impact for Local Residents

MAGGIE VALLEY — The holiday season brought more than lights and festivities to Maggie Valley this year. It brought generosity.

The Maggie Valley Club held a charity event during the Christmas holidays to benefit residents at Maggie Valley Nursing and Rehabilitation — and the community showed up in a big way.

Club members raised $5,630 for the nursing home’s resident activity fund.

The funds will go directly toward activities and special programs for the facility’s 100+ residents, helping provide enrichment, entertainment, and meaningful engagement throughout the year.

Maggie Valley Nursing and Rehabilitation offers a full-service approach to long-term nursing care, along with short-term rehabilitation services for patients recovering from illness, injury, or surgery. For many Haywood County families, it’s not just a facility — it’s home for someone they love.

“The facility was the perfect recipient for a charity event to support our local residents that reside in this continued care environment,” said Linda Flahardy with the Maggie Valley Club Member Advisory Committee. “The staff and the members of the Maggie Valley Club were excited to be part of such a successful event.”

Why This Matters

Activity funds in nursing facilities make a real difference. They support things like:

  • Holiday celebrations

  • Live music and entertainment

  • Craft projects and social gatherings

  • Special outings or themed events

These aren’t extras — they’re moments of joy and connection.

In a small community like Maggie Valley, stories like this remind us that looking after our neighbors doesn’t stop at the front door. It extends to the continued care environments where many of our seniors live.

💛 Good in the Holler: When local clubs invest in local residents, everybody wins.

Maggie Valley Club & Resort recently demonstrated its commitment to the community by donating nearly $7,000 to Mountain Projects' Emergency Relief Fund.

This generous contribution aims to assist local residents in Haywood County, North Carolina, who were affected by Hurricane Helene.

The funds will be used to provide essential support, including housing repairs, furniture, clothing, and other basic necessities.

The donation was raised during a Christmas party featuring a silent auction and a 50/50 raffle, attended by 100 members and community guests.

Community members who have experienced damage or displacement due to Hurricane Helene can call 828-452-1447 to connect with a Mountain Projects intake counselor for assistance.

In addition to this generous donation, Haywood County has been actively working on several initiatives to support its residents.

For instance, the county has launched an Affordable Housing Development Fund to increase the availability of safe, affordable housing, particularly in response to damage caused by Tropical Storm Fred.

Furthermore, the Haywood County Tourism Development Authority has presented a 10-year master plan aimed at managing visitor growth while protecting the county's natural and cultural resources.

These efforts reflect a broader commitment to community resilience and development in Haywood County.

Through partnerships between local organizations and community members, Haywood County continues to make significant strides in supporting its residents and fostering a strong, connected community.
