Inspired by Haywood Early College, Haywood Innovative will let middle schoolers take high school and college-level courses in a dynamic new setting.

 

Lori Fox, renowned as North Carolina’s 2021 Principal of the Year, will head the school and champion its mission to nurture creative, globally minded students.

 

The Dogwood Building at Haywood Community College is being remodeled for the program, which plans to enroll up to 120 students, supported by dedicated staff.

 

Haywood Innovative aligns with state and national education goals, aiming to serve as a standout model in North Carolina and beyond.

Haywood County Offers 'Learn to Grow' Gardening Classes

Haywood County residents looking to boost their gardening skills have an exciting chance to learn with the ‘Learn to Grow’ series from the N.C. Cooperative Extension.

 

Hosted at the Haywood County Center in Waynesville, these classes cover key gardening topics for beginners and seasoned growers alike.

 

Participants will explore seed selection, improving germination, creating the right environment, and learning when to start seeds and transplant.

 

Techniques apply to both annual and perennial flowers, as well as vegetables for spring and fall harvests.

 

Each class requires pre-registration and costs $10, with limited spots available — so early sign-up is advised.

 

Those interested in becoming Extension Master Gardener volunteers need to attend at least three sessions as a prerequisite.

 

Additional free classes are also offered throughout Haywood County at local libraries.
